Every morning for the past several months, I wake up and write this blog. My goal is to provide a valuable nugget of information. Sometimes it’s insight about one of the new loan programs. Other times I try to inspire and motivate entrepreneurs and business owners to see the glass as half full and push forward. I also do this with my team.
And this morning, I am finally stumped. I don’t know if it's writer's block – or exhaustion. Or maybe it’s that I have had the TV on this morning and the political ads are annoying me. The truth is that managing through all of the uncertainty in the world now is exhausting and can feel overwhelming at times.
I have always tried to lead my life being brutally honest. And what I have learned over the past few months is that this trait is more important than ever. The world keeps changing every few hours. Predicting is close to impossible. As leaders, we have to be OK to say "we're not sure," or "hopefully there will be more clarity on that tomorrow."
The truth is that the medical and economic recovery from Covid-19 will be two steps forward and one step backward for a long time. And while we live through all of this, the political and social environments will be shaky, as we see today.
Yes, our job is to lead, motivate, and inspire. And sometimes part of this is being willing to say, "I am not sure what to say today !" And that is precisely how I feel this morning.
